I spent most of today coding up a new photo badge for the footer of the site. The main motivation was that I wanted to have the photos display in a lightbox when they’re clicked so the user (you) doesn’t have to go to Flickr to see them.
Unfortunately, that’s also one of the drawbacks of using this method—you can no longer get to the Flickr page for a particular photo from the badge in the footer.
Would you rather have the convenience of having the image pop up so it can be viewed without leaving the page or would you rather be sent to Flickr where you could comment on the photo1, etc.?
I’m extremely interested in hearing feedback on this so, if you have an opinion on it, please leave a comment.
[1] Comments on my photos are about as rare as comments here. They’re nearly non-existent, so I have a feeling it’s not going to matter much either way as far as that goes.
I’d been planning on it for a while, but I finally picked up a Flip Mino HD today. In addition to using it to shoot video of the kids when they’re born, I wanted to take some video of Tiff’s baby shower since her family can’t make it out for it. Oh, and the dogs. There will likely be many videos of the dogs. Like this one:
I haven’t had a ton of time to play with it yet, but I’m really digging the camera so far. I think it’ll be fine for what I need.
I don’t want to give anything away, but something will be happening tonight at 7pm (hint: pay attention to how the site looks right now). Be sure to come back to the site after 7 and check it out. Details will be posted then.
